Job Summary:

ConsumerDirect is seeking a highly motivated, proactive, and detail-oriented Compliance Specialist I to join our growing Compliance Department. This role plays a key part in managing organizational risk by ensuring compliance with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.

As a Compliance Specialist I, you will take a hands-on role in identifying and mitigating compliance risks through periodic risk assessments, internal audits, and verification processes. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand evolving compliance needs and develop actionable plans. Additionally, you’ll support the implementation and maintenance of compliance programs, ensure that policies, procedures, and documentation remain current and aligned with regulatory expectations, and handle day-to-day compliance issues and inquiries.

This role is critical to strengthening our compliance framework and ensuring operational integrity across the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular risk assessments to identify and mitigate compliance risks, and recommend ways to eliminate risks
  • Collaborate with departments such as IT, HR, Marketing, Accounting, and Project Management to understand compliance needs and develop tailored action plans.
  • Perform internal audits and verifications to ensure adherence to regulatory and industry standards.
  • Create and maintain compliance documentation, including policies, procedures, and operational guides.
  • Ensure that company practices meet all applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor ongoing compliance activities and prepare summary reports to keep stakeholders informed of developments and deadlines.
  • Lead or support compliance-related projects to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for routine compliance-related inquiries and support requests.
  • Conduct legal and regulatory research to support internal initiatives and risk assessments.
  • Support the Compliance Officer with special projects and ad hoc assignments.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma required; Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Law, or a related field. preferred
  • Professional certification in compliance (e.g., Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional – CCEP) is a plus.
  • In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience in the credit reporting industry, with a strong understanding of FCRA, CROA, and UDAAP, are highly preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in compliance, audit, risk management, or a related regulatory role.
  • Highly detail-oriented with strong project management skills; well-organized and results-driven, with a focus on meeting deadlines and producing high-quality work.
  • Exceptional professional writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong collaboration skills and a team-oriented mindset.
  • Demonstrated reliability, accountability, and initiative.
  • Ability to work effectively across departments and adapt to a dynamic environment.
  • Ad hoc tasks given by the Compliance Officer or COO
